Spring skiing can be the best time of the year…. Even this late. Depends where you live, but in Colorado
we still get storms in April. Two years ago, A-Basin was open until July 4 th and it dropped a couple
inches there last night.
Snow isn’t necessarily the best part of spring skiing. It’s more the atmosphere. Finally, your go-getter
friend doesn’t care about leaving the city at 5:45 a.m. because the snow won’t be any good until the
frozen crust melts anyway. Once you’re there, nobody is feeling a ton of pressure to stay on the slopes
all day. Mixing in bloody mary’s no longer seems like a waste of time on a busy riding schedule, but
rather like a brilliant course of action.* Landings on the jumps are softer, and maybe you’re feeling a
little more courageous after that bloody mary.
Speaking of courage, the most courageous thing a man can do on the mountain isn’t necessarily
dropping a 50-foot cliff or doing a rodeo. The most courageous thing is only available in the Spring.
Here’s a shout-out to my buddy Dave who made the attempt last year:
*DISCLAIMER: TheSkiLift.org neither encourages nor condones the use of alcohol while skiing, nor do we
think drinking bacon bloody mary’s on the mountain is a “brilliant course of action.”
